Israel will open the world's first power generated road

Scientists said that Israel had find a new power generation method that via the moving of vehicle to allow the streets and highways to generating. They will be open up a world's first generation of the road in January 2009, every car on the road traveling 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) will be produced more than 640 kilowatts of electricity, enough for 12 small power motor vehicles.

This road work in the power generation could be similar to the dance floor in the London nightclub . When traveling on the road, the car will be squeezed micro piezoelectric crystals to produce a small amount of electricity. If thousands of piezoelectric crystals were implanted surface of the road can be a great power. Have a current can be transferred back to the national power grid or used for lighting and heating. To participate in the study of Israel's R & D is also used for railway and the airport moving walkways similar to the system.

Fastener enterprises to appeal anti-dumping sanction

Chinese fastener enterprises are to work together to appeal against the EU's anti-dumping sanction, according to Feng Jinyao, director of China Fastener Association.

The European Commission voted earlier this month to impose anti-dumping duties of 63 to 87 percent on China-made fasteners over the next five years. The vote must be approved by the trade ministers of the 27-nation bloc within a month, before it comes into force.

This is one of the largest anti-dumping investigations that the EU has instigated against China. As a result, the fastener industry in China could lose over 400 million euros a year, and 800,000 workers could be made redundant.

"This is devastating for enterprises like us," said Yu Liangbin, an exporter based in Zhejiang, who each year exports over $10 million worth of goods to the EU. Yu said many enterprises are thinking about turning to other markets to avoid the trade sanction by EU.

China raises machinery subsidies to help farmers

China's State Council, or cabinet, said on Thursday that the central government would allocate 10 billion yuan ($1.46 billion) in subsidies for agricultural machinery purchases next year to help farmers and returning migrants.
At an executive meeting presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao, the council said that "to provide such subsidy could raise the country's agricultural mechanization level and boost the development of the farm machinery industry and economic development".

The amount of the subsidy was 6 billion yuan more than in 2008, and it will be available to farmers and farm workers across the country.

This plan was another important way to boost domestic demand apart from providing subsidized household appliances for farmers, said the meeting.
The government promised to grant a 13-percent subsidy for farmers' purchase of household appliances including color TV sets, refrigerators, mobile phones, washing machines and freezers starting in December 2007.

"China should take more active measures to create jobs and lay special importance on the employment of migrant workers, as some domestic enterprises ran into production and operation difficulties amid the adverse impact of the global financial turmoil," said the meeting.

"China should take more active measures to create jobs and lay special importance on the employment of migrant workers, as some domestic enterprises ran into production and operation difficulties amid the adverse impact of the global financial turmoil," said the meeting.

Local governments should streamline the procedures involving land use, taxation, business registration and other functions as well as providing better financial services to help migrant workers who return home to start businesses, said the meeting.

Local authorities should also ensure migrant workers are promptly paid by employers, provide them with good social security services and protect their land contract rights as they return to their rural homes, according to the meeting.

China has about 210 million migrant workers who have left their rural hometowns to work in cities and towns.

Japan Machine Orders Fall 4.4% as Recession Deepens

Japanese machinery orders fell in October as the deepening global recession choked off demand for the country’s cars and electronics.

Orders an indicator of capital spending in the next three to six months, slid 4.4 percent from September, when they rose 5.5 percent, the Cabinet Office said today in Tokyo. Bookings received from abroad, which are excluded from the headline figures, tumbled 37 percent, the biggest drop in five years.

Falling profit for Japan’s exporters has driven the Topix stock index down 44 percent this year and forced the country’s biggest companies to slash production, fire workers and cut spending. Sony Corp. said yesterday it will eliminate 16,000 jobs and reduce capital investment in its electronics business by 30 percent over the next two years.

“It’s inevitable that business investment will keep falling because the drop in overseas demand is so huge,” said Yasuhide Yajima, a senior economist at NLI Research Institute in Tokyo. “The reduction in investment and jobs will make Japan’s recession very deep and prolonged.”

The Topix index of machinery makers lost 0.3 percent as of 10:41 a.m. in Tokyo, compared with a 0.3 percent increase in the benchmark stock gauge. Komatsu Ltd. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. led the declines.
The yen traded at 92.50 per dollar from 92.24 before the report. Japan’s currency has climbed 15 percent since September, compounding exporters’ woes by eroding the value of their earnings made abroad.
Shrinking Economy

The world’s second-largest economy shrank at an annual 1.8 percent pace last quarter, a report showed yesterday, as businesses cut spending and inventories. The recession has since deepened: in October, exports fell at the fastest pace in seven years, production slumped, job prospects fell to a four-year low and household spending tumbled for an eighth month.

Morgan Stanley today cut its outlook for Japan, saying gross domestic product will shrink 2 percent next year, matching the country’s “postwar nadir” of 1998. The impact of the global financial crisis on the economy “is worse than we envisaged,” said Takehiro Sato, chief Japan economist at Morgan in Tokyo.
The Bank of Japan’s quarterly Tankan survey next week will show sentiment among large manufacturers fell the most in 34 years, according to economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

“Japan’s economy is in far worse shape than feared,” said Glenn Maguire, chief Asia-Pacific economist at Societe Generale SA in Hong Kong. “The contraction in capital spending is therefore likely to be particularly severe in the fourth quarter.”

Tool Orders Plunge
The monthly drop in orders was in line with economists’ estimates for a 3.9 percent decrease. Year on year, orders tumbled 15.5 percent, the steepest decline since June 2007.

November bookings for machine tools slid the most in at least 21 years, plunging 62 percent from a year earlier, the Machine Tool Builders Association said yesterday.

Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corp. will cut equipment investment 27 percent to 430 billion yen ($4.6 billion) by March 2011, the Tokyo-based company said yesterday.

The Bank of Japan forecasts business investment will stay sluggish for the next several quarters. The central bank cut its benchmark interest rate to 0.3 percent in October, the first reduction in seven years, and some economists predict a return to zero rates in coming months.

“Monetary policy will take on more of the character of fiscal policy, under pressure from the markets,” said Morgan Stanley’s Sato. “We envisage two further rate cuts to get us back to the zero interest-rate policy” by March, he said.

Scientists Invent Machine That Sorts Pomegranate Seeds

A team of investigators from Valencia has developed a machine that separates automatically the seeds from the rind and pith of the pomegranate. The mechanism uses a computer vision system to distinguish and sort the different parts of this fruit, according to a study published on-line by the Journal of Food Engineering.

The difficulty in peeling pomegranates and separating out the seeds disheartens many consumers when they eat the fruit of the pomegranate (Punica granatum). Now a Spanish invention enables this food to be de-seeded automatically. “This involves a machine that discards the non edible parts and sorts the seeds according to their quality”, José Blasco explains to SINC and who is from the Institute of Agrarian Research in Valencia (Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias [IVIA]), where they have carried out research. The results of the research have been published recently in the Journal of Food Engineering, and the patent has already been requested.

The initial idea for creating this machine came from a project financed by the European Union for the comprehensive utilization of the pomegranate. A firm from Valencia became involved in the project and uses the machine to separate the seeds from the pomegranate and commercialises them.

The seeds arrive at the machine in a pile and mixed with the rest of the fruit, following a prior process of wholesale de-seeding. The material is placed on a conveyor platform with hoppers that organises it into a queue before going on to the “inspection chamber” where two videocameras record each object going through. Images are processed in a computer with vision software especially designed for this task that identifies what is seed from what is not (pith, rind, strange items from the countryside), in addition to evaluating the quality of the seeds.

This information enables the fruit to be put to one side in the “separation area”, which has four exits. When the system detects that an active skin is passing through, a “blast” is emitted from air projectors thus pushing it towards the first exit. By means of these “blasts” (which last about 30 milliseconds) the rest of the material is separated gradually. The seeds that do not fulfil the quality requirements demanded by the firm are eliminated through the second exit, prime quality seeds go through the third exit, and those of excellent quality go through the fourth exit.

Anti-carcinogenic properties of pomegranates

Nearly 35,000 tons of pomegranates are produced in Spain each year, and the harvesting period is concentrated between the months of October and January. Until now a lot of the fruits were not commercialised because of their cracked and discoloured appearance due to “too much sun”, although in both cases the nutritive and organoleptic quality of the seeds was not affected. With the new machine these pomegranates will be used to full advantage.

The nutritional and anti-carcinogenic properties of the pomegranate fruits have been highlighted in various studies. Moreover this tree does not need fertilizers, phytosanitary products, or large quantities of water, and so adapts well to arid soils.

10.4 percent: Japan's machinery orders got the biggest drop in last 10 years

Taking into account the global economic slowdown led to reduced overseas demand, machinery manufacturers have cut their investment plans, leading to Japan's machinery orders fell 10.4 percent last season, the biggest drop over the past 10 years.

Machinery orders data in Japan has been a leading indicator of investment in equipment, the Japanese Cabinet Office said in Tokyo yesterday, machinery orders drop is the signal reducing investment in the next three to six months.

Reduce of Japanese exporters' profits this year have resulted in the Nikkei 225 index fell 44 percent, and forced some of Japan's largest companies to cut down costs. Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan anticipated last week the fiscal year revenue will be reduced by 70%, and plans to reduce the staff and investment.

"Demand reduction has been very clear, which suppress the will of the investment." BNP Paribas senior economist in Tokyo Maruyama is forecast, "we will see more companies to reduce the cost in greater scope."

Environmental protection motorcycle ---driven by body movements

It may look like the most dangerous motorbike in the world but this new invention is actually the latest form of green transport.

The electric Uno is the brainchild of 18-year-old Canadian Ben Gulak who spent several years developing the bike, which is controlled entirely by body movements.

The machine actually has two wheels, side-by-side, and uses gyroscopic technology to stay upright. It moves in the direction the rider leans - and the more you lean, the faster you go.

Ben claims that the bike could help beat pollution and he was inspired to design it after visiting China and seeing all the smog there.

He says: "The bike is fairly easy to ride, but takes a bit of getting used to because you have to learn to trust it."

The top speed on the current prototype is 25mph, but this could be increased with the use of a bigger motor.

The Uno weighs just 58kg and has a range of 2.5 hours once it is charged from the mains. Ben is seeking investors to help him put it into full production.

An X-Ray Machine Energized by Adhesive Tape

It may sound bizarre—or like some kind of high school science fair project, but it's not: Researchers have discovered that peeling adhesive tape ejects enough radiation to take an x-ray image. If they stick, the findings could set the stage for a less expensive x-ray machine that does not require electricity.

Lead researcher Carlos Camara, a physicist at the University of California, Los Angeles, reports in Nature today that his team captured x-rays of a finger on film (positioned behind it) by using a simple tape-peeling device (placed in front of it).

How is that possible? It turns out that radiation is released when tape is ripped from a surface. The reason, says Camara: electrons (negatively charged atomic particles) leap from a surface (peeling off of glass or aluminum works, too) to the adhesive side of a freshly yanked strip of tape, traveling so fast that they give off radiation, or energy, when they slam into it.

The result of this process when recorded by radiographic film is a fuzzy x-ray of the finger bone of physicist Seth Putterman, who runs the lab in which it was made.

"We have high hopes that this can be a very inexpensive alternative source of x-rays good enough to take x-ray images," Camara tells ScientificAmerican.com.

Conventional x-ray machines require expensive electrical components to create a beam of high-energy electrons that is aimed at a metal target. Camara envisions an x-ray device in which the adhesive tape could be peeled by a hand crank—and rolled back up for use again. He notes that researchers reused the same roll of tape many times without any change in x-ray quality. Unfortunately, he says, whether via the traditional method or the tacky one, it still requires the same amount of radiation to create an image.

Worried about radiation from the tape dispenser on your desk? Don't. In both a conventional and the experimental x-ray machine, electrons travel unhindered by air molecules through a vacuum chamber; that allows them to produce the higher energy needed to make x-rays. Normal air, comprised of nitrogen and oxygen and other gases, slows the electrons to a pace that is so sluggish there is only enough energy left to produce a faintly visible, benign blue light.

The maintenance of door hardware

Hardware is the soul of a whole door, including the handle, lock, hinge, and so on。They are so small, but playing an significant role.

The key to the life of door lies in the maintenance of hardware. Stainless steel handle and other Stainless steel hardware can be polished with stainless steel cleaner, in order to make it glossy. During the long time movement, the performance of hinge, hanging wheel , castor and other moving parts may be lower ,owing to the dust adhesion. One or two drops of lubricating oil every six months can maintain its smooth. If the rotation of the lock insert is not flexible enough, can use knife to scrape black powder from pencil core and blowing it into the keyhole. This is because the composition of graphite is a very good solid lubricant. But to be sure to avoid Lubricating Oil, because this would be more easier to adhere dust.

Special attention should be paid to the rotating direction of the handle , avoiding with all one's strength. In particular, it is necessary to educate children, not hanging in the door handles dangling, because it is very dangerous and may be prone to internal damage to the door.

The introduction of Cryonetic machining

Cryonetic machining is a mechanical working process employing the special properties of materials in low/ultra-low temperature condition.

In the low-temperature machining, the use of ultra-low-temperature liquid fluid in the machining system, cutting the area to form local low-temperature (or ultra-low temperature), in order to take advantage of this state object processing and processing tools to change the mechanical properties, so that it is conducive to machining. It can form a better state of processing, especially for some of materials that hard to process, such as titanium alloys, low-alloy steel, low carbon mild steel and particularly some of the toughness of plastic composite materials.

The basic steps of cryonetic machining:

① According to the processing and object processing tool set features the best low-temperature processing temperature Topt;

② the use of low-temperature fluid so that the specific area of closed-end processing temperature Topt;

③ automatic injection of the cryogenic fluid in order to maintain the temperature of processing zones in the state of Topt: On the one hand, when detected in the processing zone temperature deviation Topt, through feedback controller to regulate the flow jet, on the other hand, when the input power processing system Changes directly through the feed-forward regulation of jet traffic controllers in advance in order to maintain the best state of low-temperature processing.

All You Need to Know About Wines

Wine is nothing but a mixture of wild species of grapes, rice and different types of yeasts without the use of sugar, enzymes or any lactic acids. The word "wine" is a Latin word derived from indo-European countries.

Composition of wines: Wines consist of water to a large extent. In addition to this, wines also contain variety of acids such as lactic acids, ethyl acid, minerals such as iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, sulphates and vitamins such as vitamin A and vitamin P.

There exist different types of wines according to the base product, two of which are listed below:

1) Fruit wine: ex-apple, berries
2) Vegetable wine: ex- wheat, barley

The production of wines was first found in places of Georgia and Iraq at around 6000 BC to 5000 BC. Traces of wines were also found in Greece, ancient Europe.

Cultivation of wines was started in North East areas at around 3000 BC. Cultivation of red and white wine, as we know them today, first started in Egypt, but wide-scale cultivation of wines began in Rome, which produced the best quality wine. They produced different flavors of wine.

Dry wine is one of the most popular types of wines. During fermentation, when sugar is converted into alcohol, the toxic alcohol kills the yeast and the resulting wine is called as dry wine. Wines are mainly produced from the grape species known as Vitis vinifera.

There exist different types of wines like red wine, white wine etc. They are distinguished on the amount of sugar used and the time required for fermentation.

A few types of wines are listed below:

1) Vintage wines: In order to produce a vintage wine it is a must that at least 95% of the volume of grapes used, are produced in a single year. They are mostly produced in USA.

2) Non vintage wines: They are produced from vintage wines itself. In these, at least 50% of the grapes used should have been produced in the same year.

3) Organic wines: Organic wines are produced from grapes without the use of fertilizers and pesticides. They do not contain any harmful material and are used to cure a number of diseases.

4) Red wines: They are produced from black grapes and are red in color. It prevents cancer and heart diseases because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

5) White wine: They are produced from white grapes; and they are pale yellow in color.

When alcohol is added in a wine it is called as fortified wine. Taste of wines depends on the drinker's palate.

Vintage wines are costliest of all wines. They can cost thousands of dollars per bottle.

Some of the most expensive wines are Bordeaux and Cult wines.

Production:

France is the largest producer of wines. Italy is the second largest producer.

Italy is the largest exporter of wines.

Uses: Wine is the most popular beverage, and can also be used as a flavoring agent.

Wines also have a good effect on cardiovascular problems. Wines can also used for religious and ritual purposes.

Which Type of Coffee Machine Will Suit Your Business?

a) Traditional Espresso Machines

These machines incorporate the art and theatricality of coffee making, and therefore good barista training is essential to ensure a detailed knowledge of great coffee production. A barista is an expert at making espresso and a master of a variety of espresso based beverages. Once these skills have been mastered, a good barista can produce hundreds of drinks per day.Prices can vary from around £800 to £6000, but remember, you get what you pay for, so make sure that the machine you choose is new and fully warranted, including full barista training and a good support service. The great thing about traditional machines is that there are no major moving parts so less to go wrong.

b) Bean to Cup Machines

A bean to cup machine does exactly what it says! The fresh coffee beans are placed inside the machine and on the press of a button the machine automatically grinds the beans and pours both coffee and milk into your cup. The machine automatically heats and froths the milk to produce the perfect latte/cappuccino etc. The milk is usually kept in a fridge or milk chiller next to the machine; a pipe from the machine connects into the fridge and when the drink selection button is pressed the machine draws the milk from the fridge and sucks it into the machine steams, heats it and drops it into the cup. These various coffee machines are designed to produce anything from 50 cups per day to over 500 per day. The cost of these can vary from under £1000 to well over £10000, so it is important you make the correct choice.

c) Pod System

Similar to traditional, but you would usually only have 1 or 2 group versions and you wouldn’t need a grinder because you would use what are called pods. The advantages are that they are easy to use, producing good quality drink and nice aromas. The time taken to make the coffee is approximately the same as a traditional machine. The disadvantages are that they are more expensive per cup due to packaging cost. Typically a good quality pod will cost 20p per cup to produce. These machines will suit any small site and tend to be cheaper than the other machines, costing around £395 upwards.

d) Filter System and Bulk Brew System

These systems are for simply using filter coffee. A 2 jug filter makes great coffee for about 5 to 7 minutes, however if it’s left to stew for a while, as filter coffee usually is, the quality quickly deteriorates due to constant warming. Typically there can be waste, and so while the cup price is around 10p per cup, with waste, this could work out to be nearer 20p per cup. It can be used if there is a high demand for coffee over a short space of time such as serving 120 wedding guests after the dinner. A filter machine is always a back up to a traditional or bean to cup machine for use at very busy times or in case of a machine breakdown.Bulk brew systems are large scale filter systems used in locations such as banqueting facilities, hotels and sporting events. There are hundreds of different coffee machine systems available depending on how many litres of coffee need to be served and in what time scale.

China's third manned spacecraft lifted off at 9:10 pm on Thursday to fulfill its most ambitious and risky mission: spacewalk.Shenzhou VII, carrying astronauts Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming and Jing Haipeng, blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu province, into a clear sky.
As is the case with such missions, the first few moments were tense. But then the ground control heard the voices of the astronauts. They felt "physically sound", they said to the joy of the scientists on the ground.

"The solar panel has unfolded, and we feel well," one of them said. Remote-measuring signals showed all their physical indices, such as blood pressure and heartbeat, were normal.
The astronauts will orbit the Earth for three days, 68 hours, to be precise, and one of them will walk in space about 343 km above the Earth on Saturday.
That will make China the third country to conduct extra-vehicular activity (EVA) in space. The other two to have achieved that are the former Soviet Union and the US.
The timing of the spacewalk could, however, be changed, depending on how long it would take for the astronauts to adjust to all the factors. EVAs are essential for China's long-term goal of building a space station by 2020, and possibly launching a manned mission to the Moon.

Back at the Beijing Aerospace Control Center Thursday, hundreds of scientists monitored and reported the spacecraft's status every few seconds.
At 9:32 pm, Shenzhou VII entered its orbit. A minute later, Chang Wanquan, chief commander of the center, announced that the lift-off had been a complete success.
President Hu Jintao, who was present at the Jiuquan launch center, congratulated the space scientists and the astronauts for the successful lift-off.
"The successful launch marks the first victory of the Shenzhou VII mission," Hu told scientists and other staff at the center. "On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission, I congratulate all those who are part of the mission."
A few hours before the launch, Hu saw off the three white-suited astronauts on their way to the Long March II-F carrier rocket, which later took them into space.
The spacewalk would be a milestone, he told them. "This will be a major step forward for our country's aerospace technology."
"You can certainly fulfill this glorious and sacred task. The motherland and its people await your triumphant return," he said.

The astronauts will land in central part of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region in a re-entry module.
The astronauts entered the spacecraft at 6:28 pm Thursday, checked the communication system with the ground control after reviewing the operation manual of the spaceship.
The spaceship will change its orbit around 4 am today. And the astronauts will start testing and putting on the EVA spacesuits, which could take up to 15 hours.
China launched its first manned spaceship in October 2003, and followed it up by sending Shenzhou VI two years later. But the Shenzhou VII astronauts have a greater task in hand.
They have a wider choice of dishes too: nearly 80. One of them is spicy kung-pao chicken cooked following a "new method", Chen Bin, the mission's chief nutritionist, told Xinhua.
They will also take traditional Chinese medicine made with more than 10 herbs to treat space motion sickness.
Engineers overseeing the flight have, however, warned of risks. Zhang Jianqi, one of the chief engineers, told Xinhua that keeping the three men in the craft and sending one outside the capsule would be a "big test".
"This is a big technological leap," he said. "The risks are quite high. Sending up three astronauts is a jump both in quantity and quality."
Space motion sickness can cause dizziness, vomiting and nausea. A depressed astronaut could feel severe pain in the joints, have breathing difficulty or could even lose consciousness.
"Some of these can be life-threatening," said Li Yongzhi, director of medical department of the China Astronaut Research and Training Center.

China's steel association opposes ore price increases

China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) wrote a letter to Brazil-based Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) on Tuesday, asking the world's leading iron ore producer to give up its attempt to raise prices.
The letter said, "one-sided price raising not only violated international iron ore price negotiation rules, but also led to huge losses in Chinese steel enterprises. This damaged the win-win relationship in bilateral iron ore trading."
In February, the CVRD, Asia's largest steel producers and several European steel companies agreed on an ore price hike of 65 percent, which pushed up the ore price to 1.898 US dollars per dry metric ton iron ore unit.
However, the CVRD informed steel enterprises last week it would raise the price of iron ore by an additional 20 percent as of September 1.
"The previous price hike was motivated by Australian ore suppliers BHP Billiton in July. The CVRD aimed to follow BHP's move and drive up ore prices step by step," said Zhou Xiaoming, an analyst for the Lange Group.
Baosteel, China's largest steel supplier, had agreed with Australian ore producer BHP Billiton on a price increase of up to 96.5 percent for iron ore in 2008, nearly double that of 2007.
Iron ore prices already increased significantly this year bringing up business costs at the country's steel mills.
According to CISA statistics, costs for the country's large and medium-size iron and steel manufacturers rose by more than 250 billion yuan (36.5 US billion dollars), or 57.57 percent, in the first half due.
"The VCRD should give up its decision to raise iron ore prices and come back to a normal price negotiation with China," said the CISA.

U.S. shipments of packaging machinery climb for 6th-consecutive year

U.S. shipments of packaging machinery climbed for the sixth-consecutive year, up 3.9% to an estimated $6.02 billion, according to PMMI’s 2008 Shipments & Outlook study.

Exports increased 17.8% to $1.16 billion, with the declining value of the U.S. dollar offering an advantage for selling domestic products abroad.
Domestic shipments, at $5.05 billion, grew only 1.2%, as many U.S. customers were wary of committing to large purchases.

Packaging machinery manufacturers’ order backlog at the end of 2007 was down 9.1% to $1.63 billion, again largely due to wariness about the state of the economy.

This most recent report, while still positive, is a far cry from the 9.3%, 8.1% and 6% recorded in 2004, 2005 and 2006, respectively. Demand from U.S. customers climbed sharply in those years, but was up just modestly in 2007.

Capping (15.4%) and cartoning (14.7%) machinery posted the strongest gains, pushed by strong exports. Shipments for all but two machinery categories (form/fill/seal machinery and skin and blister sealing machinery) posted positive results.

Other findings included:

Manufacturers continued to introduce new equipment models with value-added benefits.

Sustainability issues influenced packagers, creating demand for machinery able to handle lighter gauge materials, reduce waste and energy coasts.

Packagers remained committed to increasing security by improving tracking, contaminant detection, integrity and counterfeit prevention.

U.S. customers began to delay and cancel projects, particularly during the second half of the year as the economy began to wane.

Foreign competitors continued to increase their presence in the market.

Competition among U.S. packaging machinery manufacturers became more aggressive, leading to reduced unit prices.

Japan machinery orders slip again, darkening outlook

Japanese orders for machinery dropped for a second straight month in July, government data showed Thursday, raising further concern about the outlook for the world's second largest economy.

Core private-sector machinery orders, which exclude particularly volatile demand from power companies and for ships, are regarded as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending.

Orders fell 3.9 percent in July from the previous month, the Cabinet Office said, following a 2.6 percent fall in June.

While the latest figure was better than the market's forecast of a 4.3 percent fall, analysts said it showed companies are wary of boosting capacity at a time of high material costs and slowing exports.

"Demand overseas keeps falling, and considering the current economic situation, the trend (in machinery orders) is likely to continue," Kyohei Morita, chief Japan economist at Barclays Capital, told Dow Jones Newswires.

Orders by manufacturers, such as machinery makers that buy engines and tools, tumbled 10.4 percent in July, the data showed.

Machinery orders from non-manufacturers such as farmers and telecommunication firms were down 2.4 percent.

Many economists suspect that Japan's economy, Asia's largest, may have slipped into recession after some six years of almost continuous growth.

A global economic slowdown, coupled with higher commodity prices, has hit the Japanese economy, which has long relied on exports of finished goods made from imported raw materials.

Revised estimates for gross domestic product slated for release on Friday are expected to show that Japan's economic contraction in the second quarter was more severe than initially thought.

Experts think the economy shrank at an annual pace of 3.3 percent in the quarter, worse than the 2.4 percent fall in preliminary data issued a month ago.

The data "will probably help clarify that the economy is in a recession," said Dai-Ichi Life Research Institute senior economist Toshihiro Nagahama.

Japan also saw bleak data on Wednesday, with the current account surplus falling on rising energy costs and wholesale prices growing at their fastest pace in 27 years.

However, some analysts were less pessimistic about machinery orders, noting that crude oil and commodity prices have recently been easing.

"The result was in line with expectations and I am keeping my view that the trend of orders will remain flat for the months ahead," said Shinko Research Institute economist Norio Miyagawa.

"Crude oil prices and commodity prices have been falling," he said, "so that's positive."

The data comes amid a race within Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party to choose a new prime minister, in which the faltering economy has become a top issue.

MECHANICAL SEAL CLASSIFICATIONS

Over the years, mechanical seals have undergone continuous improvement. Today, numerous classifications and design features are available to end users. Each mechanical seal design offers specific strengths that make its use advantageous for certain situations, and tradeoffs that may make its use impractical or ill-advised for particular applications. As the technological sophistication associated with mechanical seal design has increased, users often have a difficult time deciding which seals to use, and where to apply them most appropriately.

Mechanical seals can be classified by design, or by application.

Classification by design:

1. Component or cartridge seals

2. Spring-type seals

3. Stationary or rotary seals

4. Balanced or unbalanced seals

5. Pusher or bellows seals

6. Split vs. non-split seals

Classification by application

1. Pump or mixer seals

2. Metallic versus nonmetallic seals

3. High-temperature seals

4. Single versus dual seals (such a tandem, back-back or face-face de signs)

5. Wet lubricated seals or gas seals

EU continues to investigate dumping case – no provisional tariffs to be applied

The European Commission has issued an interim report on its investigation of alleged dumping of a wide range of fasteners by Chinese producers. The investigation started in November 2007 and a decision on preliminary tariffs was due by 8 August. The report concludes "there are several crucial elements of the investigation which merit further careful analysis". As a result the Commission has proposed that provisional measures are not applied but that it would continue to investigate the case.

Outstanding issues, according to the report, include verification that the production volume of the complainants exceeds the minimum 25 percent of EU production required for the complaint to be valid. There have been persistent rumours, but no firm evidence, that a significant complainant may have withdrawn support, which could mean the figure falling below the required threshold. Investigators also intend continuing to work on dumping and injury calculations, which the report indicates are currently inconclusive, as well as delving into whether, as is argued by importer associations, type and quality differences between Chinese and European product have implications for these calculations. The report conclusion also indicates that the investigators will consider the significance of dramatic increases in raw material costs that have occurred since the investigation period, which covers October 2006 to September 2007.

The body of the 26 page report notes that imports from PR China to the EU increased by 180 percent between 2003 and 2007, resulting in market share increasing from 17 to 26 percent. EU producers share declined by 8.8 percent over a three period. Preliminary calculations, although described as approximate and requiring further evaluation, showed "considerable dumping margins". Market economy status has been denied to Chinese producers, so dumping calculations are made between Chinese export prices and the domestic price in an "analogue" country, which the Commission has provisionally adjudged should be India, since it was unable to obtain cooperation from fastener producers in Taiwan or other countries.

The Commission has scheduled a hearing on 18 September to which representatives from distributor and manufacturing associations and other interested parties have been invited. This hearing will focus on the scope of products included in the investigation and the issue of comparability between Chinese and EU products.

A final decision on the case, which in the event of tariffs being applied requires authorisation by the EU Council of (Member State) Ministers, must be published by 8 February 2009.

Sanitary Control Valves

Sanitary control valves are used to control the flow of gas and liquid. These valves are used in almost every industry. Their most common use is for pressurized air. Finding sanitary valve suppliers that have what you are looking for could take hours. Narrow your search to exactly what your company is looking for to help you find the exact sanitary valves you need in no time.

Sanitary control valves are available with three different controls. Manual controls are the most inexpensive and most common form of sanitary control valve. These have handles that allow the user to manually open and shut the valve. Electronic and electric sanitary control valves are in the middle of the price range. These valves use electricity to open and close the valve. The last type of valve is the pneumatic sanitary control valve, which uses hydraulics and pneumatics to adjust flow.
1. Manually control a sanitary control valve.
2. Electronically oversee the sanitary valve's performance.
3. Allow pneumatics to do all the sanitary control valve work.

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

  • Buy a manual sanitary pressure control valve
Manual sanitary valves are used mainly for gas, water and oil. The sanitary flow control valves are manually turned to regulate flow. Manual sanitary valves are generally made of stainless steel for a durable, long lasting product.
  • Locate electric sanitary control valves
Electric valves are used to control valves that open and close frequently or that are in difficult areas to access. An electric or electronic sanitary valve uses a control panel or switch to activate the valve. Some of valves use a timer so they can open at the correct time, every time.
  • Use pneumatic sanitary control valves
Pneumatic sanitary control valves are controlled by high power hydraulics. These valves are for industrial uses and large valve needs. Pneumatic valves are very expensive, however if you have need for a high pressure valve for a large line, it is the best way to go.

What is a Valve?

A valve is a product rarely noticed by the average person, yet it plays an important role in the quality of our life. Each time you turn on a water faucet, use your dishwasher, turn on a gas range, or step on the accelerator of your car, you operate a valve. Without modern valve systems, there would be no fresh pure water or automatic heat in your home. There would be no public utilities, and beyond wood and coal, almost no energy of any kind. Plastics would be unheard of, as would many inexpensive consumer products.

By definition, a valve is a device that controls the flow of a fluid. Today's valves can control not only the flow, but the rate, the volume, the pressure or the direction of liquids, gases, slurries or dry materials through a pipeline, chute or similar passageway. They can turn on and turn off, regulate, modulate, or isolate. They can range in size from a fraction of an inch to as large as 30 feet in diameter and can vary in complexity from a simple brass valve available at the local hardware store to a precision-designed, highly sophisticated coolant system control valve, made of an exotic metal alloy, in a nuclear reactor.

Valves can control flow of all types, from the thinnest gas to highly corrosive chemicals, superheated steam, abrasive slurries, toxic gases and radio active materials. They can handle temperatures from cryogenic region to molten metal, and pressures from high vacuum to thousands of pounds per square inch. The valve is one of the most basic and indispensable components of our modern technological society. It is essential to virtually all manufacturing processes and every energy production and supply system. Yet it is one of the oldest products known to man, with a history of thousands of years.

How an oil seal is designed

In an oil seal environment there is a shaft that is rotating inside a housing or bore. Because of friction, there must be some clearance between the shaft and the bore. The function of the oil seal is to stop whatever fluid is inside from leaking out the clearance between the shaft and housing. The seal may also be used to prevent outside materials, such as dirt, from moving in through the clearance.

"Dynamic sealing" is the relationship between the rotating shaft and the seal and is handled by the sealing element. A garter spring may used in the oil seal to increase the radial interference between the seal lip and contact point on the shaft. In order to achieve this interference, the oil seal's ID must be slightly smaller than the diameter of the shaft.

"Static sealing" is the relationship between the housing and the seal. In order to achieve this interference, the oil seal's OD must be slightly larger than the diameter of the housing or bore.

An oil seal normally consists of three basic components: the sealing element, the metal case and the spring. The purpose of the sealing element is to stop the fluid from leaking between the shaft and housing. The metal case will give rigidity and strength to the seal while it is being held in the bore or recessed groove. The spring will help make the sealing element more effective. All materials must be selected depending on the environment in which the oil seal will function.

Ahead of the Bell: Heavy machinery makers

NEW YORK -
Shares of heavy machinery companies could see increased activity Wednesday as the government releases data expected to show demand for big-ticket manufactured goods grew slightly in July, after a big jump the previous month.
The Commerce Department's report on durable goods orders will show an increase of 0.1 percent in July from the previous month, according to the consensus estimate of Wall Street economists surveyed by Thomson/IFR. The data will be released Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
Removing bookings for transportation equipment, such as airplanes, which can swing widely from month to month, orders for all other manufactured goods are expected to dip by 0.3 percent in July.
Orders for durable goods, which are items expected to last three years and include cars, appliances and machinery, rose 0.8 percent in June, the largest increase in four months. Analysts attributed much of the increase to heavy defense spending.
Economists said that exports also helped bolster durable goods orders during the U.S. economic slowdown. Exports have experienced strong growth this year due to economic growth overseas and a declining dollar, which makes domestic exports cheaper for foreign buyers. But in recent weeks those trends have shown signs of reversing.
David Resler, chief economist at Nomura Securities, said in a note to clients that Wednesday's report could provide "an early indication about the impact that slower global economic growth and a stronger dollar might have in the months ahead."

How to use a sewing machine

Without the sewing machine, the world would be a very different place. Like the automobile, the cotton gin and countless other innovations from the past 300 years, the sewing machine takes something time-consuming and laborious and makes it fast and easy. With the invention of the mechanized sewing machine, manufacturers could suddenly produce piles of high-quality clothing at minimal expense.

Using a sewing machine is not as difficult as it seems. There are basics of machine sewing that are the same no matter what make or model machine you use.

For the first, you should understand the process of machine sewing. A machine uses two thread sources. The top thread runs from a spool you thread along the machine loops, into a tension wheel and through the needle. The order and direction should be marked on the machine or in the machine's manual. Usually, the thread follows this general pattern: "left, down, up, down, through."
Then check your manual to ensure correct needle placement. The needle is held in place by a screw; generally, the screw is loosened enough to insert the needle fully into the slot, then the screw tightened very tightly. In most machines, the flat side of the needle goes to the back of the slot; however, you'll want to be absolutely sure this is correct for your model.
Be sure to string the bottom thread (bobbin) correctly. Insert the bobbin by sliding or lifting a plate with a little window which is under the needle OR at the bottom front (or bottom left) of the machine with a removable bobbin case. All vintage machines still use this original bobbin method. If stringing is not done correctly, the top and bottom threads will not loop together - huge tangles of thread on the bottom of the material are an indication of incorrect threading. If your machine doesn't have threading directions, try typing the machine brand and model number into google - many companies have posted this critical information on the internet.
Adjust the tension if problems arise with stitches. The thread tension adjustment is usually somewhere along the top left side of the machine. The bobbin tension is usually adjusted by slightly tightening or loosening the large screw in the bobbin holder. In general, the newer the machine, the less you should fiddle with the tension!
Practice on scrap material first. It will take several bobbins of thread in practice before you gain simultaneous control of the foot pedal, steering the material under the needle, and keeping a good speed. Even the best tailors do a test before committing needle to fabric.
In general, keep the bulk of the material to the left of the machine - crowding that bulk on the right side can cause messy stitching.
Measure the seam allowance. This is the "normal" space between the edge of the fabric and the stitching line - the major pattern companies plan for 5/8". Get a ruler and measure on either side of the needle. This should be marked already on your machine's "throat plate" (the flat metal piece that the needle goes through). If not, mark it yourself with masking tape.
Do not force the material or pull the material while it is going under the needle. This can cause the material to stretch or the needle to break, or the stitches to clog up in the bobbin. Either press the foot pedal harder or buy a faster machine.
Take some time to test all the stitches available on your machine. This is particularly important if you do buttonholes or the fancy stitches.

China 's Diesel Generators Market

Diesel generators by structural approach can be divided into fixed and mobile (trailer) units; by mode of operation can be divided into single units and parallel operation unit; control by ordinary manual can be divided into units Automation unit, Smart Communications remote control unit; Technical indicators can be divided into Class I power plant, power station Ⅱ , Ⅲ type power station; by capacity can be divided into from 1 kw to 3150kw stall the power unit.

China 's diesel generator market in recent years a rapid development, from 2003 to 2007 due to the power shortage, China 's diesel generators rapid development of the market, leading to shortages of power crunch occurred, some factories, Standby Power Enterprises has become a necessary task, the sales of units in this period surge. causing manufacturers to supply the output .

Diesel generators to sustain strong There were two main reasons. First, many diesel generators for emergency power generation, hospitals, banks, airports, telecommunications and other industries standby power, Intermittent belonging to oil equipment, and the oil price increases reflect less sensitive, less cross-elasticity of demand. Therefore, this part of the market demand for temporary increases in oil prices will not be affected. Second, in many application areas, a lack of diesel generators requires alternative products. Diesel generators as a mobile power source, which makes it in many areas, are difficult to replace, such as ship electricity, Oil exploitation of the need for mobile field operations, diesel generators in these markets to be widely used. Whenever summer, the electricity supply is insufficient, the diesel generators or diesel generators will be best-selling.

However, the present, with the supply of electricity to ease the tension, as well as years of large water conservancy and hydropower construction, Rural and small hydropower building together with other such as wind power generation, nuclear power generation, Power Plant to enable the establishment of China's power shortage to ease the dilemma, therefore, diesel generators in the overall sales of the second half of 2007 have been alleviated, and The increase in fuel prices has also to some extent limit the diesel generator market development. However, the current situation is still considerable demand; a number of hospitals, banks, airports, Outdoor venues will be operating as an emergency diesel generators essential use.

Diesel generators on the market to such a wide range of applications are still in its specific characteristics. First, the diesel generators with capacity levels, the international product consists of several kilowatts to tens of thousands of kilowatts, the nation's largest for the several thousand kilowatts, the users with a lot of room for choice; second, and the supporting equipment compact structure, flexible installation locations, as long as the water-cooled 34 -82L /KWH Turbine 1 / 10; Third, high thermal efficiency, Low fuel consumption and thermal efficiency of 30 ~ 40%; Fourth, rapid start, and would soon reach full power. an emergency can be achieved within minutes full load, while the short course stands, with frequent stop for the convenience of users; 5, 6) Single smaller capacity, the operating technique is relatively simple, easy operation staff in general. Simple maintenance, maintenance convenience, fewer personnel required to operate in the maintenance reserve a small amount; Sixth, diesel generators for power generation and the construction of a comprehensive cost minimum. Sixth, low operating costs, can use a variety of fuels, demand for low-quality fuel, suitable for burning high viscosity fuel oil and the heavy oil price far below the light diesel; Seventh, high reliability, output power stability, Power generation is usually rated by the nine O operation. Therefore, the mobile power plant diesel generator has good prospects.

Diesel generators are a technology-intensive products, the majority of ship power plants, Mobile Power Station and power station by emergency diesel generators Group. Along with the development of the national economy, the diesel generators requirements has been increasing year by year, and its function, technical performance requirements are also increasing

China's diesel generators in mechanical properties, electrical properties, performance, reliability, routine maintenance and service life with the international advanced level, but there is a considerable gap, the main features: (1) Unit type less choice for a smaller; (2) dynamic economy, reliability, and other technical performance low Compact enough structure, high vibration and noise; (3) Diesel Engine Application of new technologies less intelligent, low degree of automation. These shortcomings make homemade diesel generators are not currently meet the requirements of the new ship. It had to import foreign models of a variety of marine diesel engine (such as Cummins, latency, etc.) generators (such as Stanford, Siemens, etc.), air circuit breakers and meters and other production technologies, to meet the domestic shipbuilding industry's needs. As diesel generators from diesel engines, generators and control devices composed of three parts. any part of which level of technical development and can promote other aspects of the development, thereby enhancing the diesel generators overall performance, the three parts between the technical level mutual promotion.

At present, China 's diesel generators concentrate at the senior secondary market and low-end markets. in the high-end market abroad mainly generators and ancillary mainly imported parts, at the end of the market mainly foreign parts, and foreign brands are assembled mainly domestic; At the lower end of the market are generally for domestic products and accessories, and if Weichai, Chai on the diesel generators which have a majority of the exports, and the original foreign brands in the domestic and assembly of diesel generators so on occupied 70% -80% of the market share.

Steel prices push up machinery costs

The price of steel has increased 40 per cent in six months, and is making fencing and farm machinery significantly more expensive.

Demand from China and India is pushing up the cost of iron ore, with prices expected to rise further.

Equipment manufacturer Les Gason says during the Beijing Olympics, the Chinese will turn off steel production plants to improve air quality.

"My understanding is that it's worldwide, the price of steel worldwide has gone up," he said.

"That means that anything that's made out of steel that the price is increasing around the same percentage.

"That's because the price of iron ore went up, coking fuel's gone up, so the cost of manufacturing of steel has gone up enormously in the last five months."

The process of how bird's Nest to be build

The engineering of the "Nest" of Beijing Olympics in2008, is completely the crystallization of scientific techniques! The steel structure is one of the hardest parts in the construction of every Olympic venue. A total of 150,000 tons of steel has been used to set up the framework to support these colossal structures. More than 50 of the latest technological achievements were applied in the construction of the Bird's Nest alone. And the use of environmentally-friendly materials and clean energy is one of the focuses.

The workers have overcome tremendous engineering and technical challenges in the process of construction:

1. Difficult work arrangement
They need to do very detailed research of operations and follow meticulous arrangements to complete various kinds of work within a limited workspace.

2. Difficult hoisting of steel parts
To facilitate the assembly of the steel parts, the workers have to use a prone position to assemble the truss columns, which requires a turnover process before they are hoisted. The choice of the hoist points and lug hooks pose great difficulties in the face of bulky and cumbersome steel parts, and the change of pulling stress from three directions must be taken into consideration. The workers need to meticulously rectify angles and positions of the box-typed sectional parts to ensure accurate abutment during the hoisting process.

3. Difficult stabilizing process
They also have to fight the heavy wind load and keep the stability of the steel parts by following a strict working order and use lateral stability measures including the use of anchoring method and wind-holding ropes.

4. Difficult welding
The welders not only face a huge work volume, but also have to work on both the thin steel sheets and thick steel slabs, on high-strength and cast steel elements, and take downward, vertical or overhead positions while welding. They face temperature changes, steel deformation and intensive labor. They need to work above ground, in winter rain and under windy conditions.

5. Difficult installation
The workers face difficulties in ensuring accurate installation as the steel parts and the related gigs and fixtures can be deformed easily under their own dead weight and the change of temperatures. The workers must take pre-installation measures to rectify and relieve the errors that might occur in the process of installation.

The following pictures witness the construction process of bird's Nest:
